This past month The Mussar Institute Board of Director’s had a major change in it’s leadership. Dr. Alan Morinis who has been president of the board for the last several years has stepped down. Alan will continue to play a vital role in the fundraising and strategic planning of the organization and, of course, continue his passion for writing and teaching. We thank Alan for his vision and dedication and tireless efforts steering the board to where it is today.
Now we are so fortunate to have two long-time board members take the reigns from Alan as co-presidents; Carol Robinson who resides in Alameda, California and Jeff Agron from Miami Beach, Florida.
Please join me in wishing them a Yashar Koach with much gratitude for all that they do and will continue to do over the next year.
MEET YOUR CO-PRESIDENTS
Jeff Agron
Jeff Agron resides in Miami, Florida, with his wife Lili and 3 daughters. He is the religious school principal at Congregation Bet Breira and serves on the national board for the Union for Reform Judaism. Jeff is currently working on a Masters degree in Jewish education from Siegal College in Cleveland, and is a certified Jewish meditation teacher and spiritual director. Jeff first met Alan Morinis in the Moreh Derekh spiritual direction training program where Alan introduced Mussar. He is currently taking the Everyday Holiness course and is teaching mussar to a 10th Grade confirmation class in Miami. Jeff has been the Treasurer of The Mussar Institute and Chair of the Mussar V Kallah in Miami Beach. Mussar has helped to change Jeff's life and as such, is excited about the prospects of bringing Mussar to so many more people. As President, he wants to lead the board of directors with his co-president, Carol Robinson to ensure that there are the resources and the direction for TMI to provide Mussar to more communities and new Jewish audiences, regardless of their affiliation or personal practice.
Carol Robinson
Carol Robinson is an Environmental Health and Safety consultant. She lives with her husband of 34 years Rabbi Arthur Gould in Alameda, California, and is very proud of their two grown daughters who currently reside in Austin, Texas. Carol was introduced to Mussar by her good friend, Shirah Bell. She began her Mussar studies by joining the Alameda Reading Group over three years ago, which now has become the East Bay Chaburah. She has taken Mussar I, Mussar II, and Seniors. She led Seasons of Mussar at Temple Beth Abraham (TBA), the Conservative synagogue of Oakland, California, and she now facilitates the TBA Chaburah. Mussar also inspired her to form the TBA Midway Shelter Cooks, a group that cooks meals for the Alameda homeless shelter. Carol is in her second term as a board member and led the effort to develop TMI's strategic plan. Like Jeff, Mussar has been a life-changing experience (so much so that her husband decided to join her in Mussar study). Her goal is to work with her co-president, Jeff Agron, Alan Morinis, the TMI board and the TMI community to foster the learning and practice of Mussar across the Jewish global community. Toward this goal, she hopes that Yashar readers will provide their comments, suggestions and support for our efforts.
