Middah a Month

Support, sustain and ignite your Mussar learning and practice.

All new program stating January 2013.

The Middah a Month program provides rich materials for Mussar study plus an online community to support continuing growth for anyone who has completed one or more courses with The Mussar Institute or has a solid foundation in Torah learning.

As a Middah A Month subscriber, you will receive monthly materials that will inspire, educate, and support you to engage with Mussar in general — and with one trait in particular — every month.

You’ll receive:

  • texts from both modern and traditional Mussar sources (to study alone or with a chevruta)
  • discussion questions to help deepen your own understanding
  • suggestions for your monthly affirmation (Hebrew, English and transliteration), and
  • recording of the affirmation in song.

Plus, you will have access to interactive conversations online with many others who will be on the same middah each month.

Because experience shows that having a consistent chevruta / study partner keeps you committed and deepens your growth, if you request, we will match you with a chevruta who you can speak to regularly each month, as frequently as the two of you decide.

This program is designed for independent study and practice. How much of the curriculum you use, when you complete your monthly reading and how often you meet your chevruta is entirely up to you.

The Program

You can begin Middah A Month at any time. As soon as you enroll, you will receive the full curriculum for the one Middah that is on the agenda for that month.

The middot covered starting in January 2013 are based on the the Mussar book, Cheshbon HaNefesh. The traits will be: equanimity, patience, order, decisiveness, cleanliness, humility, righteousness, frugality, diligence, silence, calmness, truth, separation.
