“Self-accounting is [the] earnest deliberation on one’s religious and secular concerns, in the privacy of one’s own thoughts, to discover what one has accomplished—and has yet to accomplish—of one’s obligations.”
– Bahya ibn Paquda, Duties of the Heart [Chovot haLevavot]; 11th century

TMI Introduces New Executive Director

Steven KrausThe Mussar Institute is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Steven Kraus, effective July 1. We are excited to have Steve, who was selected from a group of over 40 applicants, join Dean Alan Morinis, Associate Dean Avi Fertig, and Director of Administration Jeff Agron as they take TMI to new levels.

Steve comes to TMI with over 20 years of professional experience in the Jewish community, including 12 years leading change in Jewish education at JESNA (Jewish Education Services of North America). Earlier in his career, Steve served as Director of Education at two synagogues, one in Miami and the other in Elkins Park, Pa. Most recently Steve served as Executive Director of the Alliance for Continuing Rabbinic Education (ACRE), a multi-denominational coalition of rabbis.

Steve has an M.A. in Jewish History and Education from the Jewish Theological Seminary and a B.A. in Jewish Studies from the University of Toronto. Steve resides in Melrose Park, Pa., is happily married to wife Bonni, and has four children and two grandchildren.

If you attended the recent personal Practice Retreat in Maryland, you had the opportunity to meet Steve. We hope that others of you will soon get to meet him and welcome him to The Mussar Institute community.
